Cogumelo.

Cogumelo is a wedging sand-bottom peak sitting just outside Vila Nova de Milfontes, one of the Alentejo coast's most celebrated beach towns. The break throws up a bowly left that is its signature offering - fast, punchy and hollow enough to demand respect, with boils signalling the shallower sections beneath. It needs a meaningful SW swell to properly ignite, but when the energy is there the wave delivers sharp, well-defined walls across a 50-100m ride. The beach-break setting means peaks shift, so positioning requires reading each set. All tides are rideable, though source data points to the incoming phase as optimal. A slab-style left reef sits adjacent, running shallower and more inconsistently but delivering hollow sections for those willing to wait. On bigger swells a long, meandering left peels along the rivermouth to the north - a separate experience entirely. The area benefits from consistent easterly offshores that clean up both peaks. Submerged objects and sea urchins lurk in the shallower zones, and rip currents form between the sandbanks. Estuarine river influence can affect water quality around the rivermouth on incoming tide. Crowds are rarely a problem despite the town's appeal, making early sessions more about finding the best bank than competing for waves.
