The spot offers long, rippable right-hand walls that balance power and manageability, featuring a mellow drop compared to heavier nearby breaks yet remaining punchy and fun. These conditions make it ideal for progressing intermediates and relaxed advanced surfers seeking long rides. Waves typically range from shoulder to head-high, breaking over a relatively forgiving reef with deep sections, though hazards include a shallow reef at lower tides. Access is only possible by boat, with a relatively easy entry and exit over the reef, making it less crowded than some nearby spots. However, the lineup can still get busy during peak season, especially when the swell is small and manageable. Consistent swells, a reliable swell window, and tropical scenery make Nipussi a favorite among surf charters.

Wear booties
Nipussi is the fallback when the rest of the Playgrounds is too big or too heavy, which is exactly when the whole charter fleet turns up.

Hire local boat
It works from about three to eight feet, and below three feet it goes flat.

Respect locals
It breaks on all tides, but mid to high gives the most water over the reef.

It sits on the southern side of the island, so it needs a north wind to be clean while its neighbours want an easterly.

A shortboard is the board for it and the walls are long enough to carve rather than just make sections.

HAZARDS · KNOW BEFORE YOU PADDLE

A rock shelf sits at the end of the wave, so stay aware of it on the longer rides.
The inside section is shallow over live coral near low tide, and reef booties are standard kit here.
Above roughly eight feet the wave gets heavy, with stronger currents and a more consequential end section.
There is effectively one main take-off zone, so the lineup compresses fast when the charter fleet arrives.
Charter boat traffic passes close to the lineup during transfers.
