Dutchies, also known as 'Shawn the Sheep', is a secluded reef break in the Mentawai region of Indonesia, accessible only by boat. Unlike the commonly described left-hand wave, Dutchies offers powerful, high-quality right-hand waves over a coral reef bottom, making it best suited for advanced and professional surfers. The wave is known for its empty lineup and rarity, breaking fewer than five days a year, which keeps it typically uncrowded. It performs optimally during high tide with a falling tide, and conditions are best with a southwest swell and an east to southeast wind, especially during the dry season. Hazards include submerged rocks, a shallow reef at low tide, and marine pollution, so caution is essential. With its remote location, challenging waves, and beautiful setting, Dutchies remains a unique and sought-after destination for experienced surfers and visiting surf charters.
