Lance's Left is one of the most iconic left-hand reef breaks in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, located on the southern tip of Sipora Island. The wave offers long, fast walls with multiple barrel sections and several take-off points, making it highly consistent and popular among intermediate and advanced surfers. It works best with southwest swells and easterly to northeasterly winds, particularly at mid to high tide. The break occurs over a shallow coral reef, which poses hazards, especially at low tide, and occasional currents can add to the challenge during larger swells. Access is primarily by boat, though it is also reachable via a short walk from local accommodations, with a safe channel available for paddling in. While crowds can be significant during peak season, the multiple take-off zones help distribute surfers and reduce congestion.

There is a small keyhole in the reef you can follow back to the line-up if you get caught inside.
Under bigger conditions it is best approached from the outside by boat rather than paddled at from the beach.
The wave has several take-off points, so the crowd spreads further along the reef than the numbers suggest.
It still produces fun waves in an onshore wind, so a poor wind forecast is not a reason to write the day off.
