Ariks is a renowned right-hand reef break in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, known for its fun, playful waves. Located at the end of a long reef, the spot requires a significant southwest to west swell to perform well. It works best during the dry season and mid to high tide, producing long rides that can feature a barrel on take-off before easing into a playful wall for carving turns. The sharp live coral reef demands careful navigation, especially at lower tides when coral heads are exposed. Swells from the southwest light up the spot, while trade winds from the northeast offer clean conditions. Access is only by boat, which keeps crowds moderate but steady during peak months, though it can get crowded with local surfers and intermediates when other spots are too heavy.
