Located on the western edge of North Sipora, Hookers is a regional classic surf spot in the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, known for its long, fast, and hollow left-breaking waves over a sharp coral reef. Rides can range from 50 to 150 meters, offering powerful barrels especially during the dry season when Indian Ocean swells are consistent. The wave is somewhat inconsistent and performs best with a westerly or southwest swell, working well at all tides though mid to high tide is often preferred to avoid the shallowest sections. Access is only by boat, which keeps the spot less crowded than nearby famous breaks, but it can still be busy during peak months. The takeoff is critical and the wave can get heavy, demanding skill and confidence from intermediate to advanced surfers. Hazards include razor-sharp coral and occasional strong currents, so caution is advised. Surfers should respect local etiquette and check forecasts before visiting, as the wave does not always break consistently.
