Labuhan Haji is a rarely surfed cluster of reef breaks on Lombok's east coast that needs specific wet season conditions to produce short, fun right-handers.
Labuhan Haji sits way up Lombok's east coast, where several separate reefs break south of the village and the harbour that sends the ferry across to Sumbawa. Unlike the famous south coast, this stretch runs on wet season logic: from November to April a southeast to south swell has to run up the Alas Strait while west to northwest winds blow offshore, and only then do the reefs deliver short, fun right-handers over live coral. Expect waves in the 2 to 6 foot range that well up onto shallow coral and submerged rock, with rides usually under 50 metres. Consistency is low, so the coast sits flat most days, and even when it breaks you will rarely share the lineup with more than a handful of surfers. The shallow reef, the rocks in the lineup and the distance from Lombok's surf infrastructure make it a spot for intermediate and better surfers who check the reef carefully before paddling out. There is a modest local scene around the harbour: boards are rented on the town beach, beginners learn on the sand-bottom corner beside the jetty, and the rocky northern end of the beach handles the biggest days.
