Middle Reef.

Middle Reef sits offshore on Sumbawa’s west coast, renowned for its consistent, high-quality waves. The spot works best on a mid to large swell, producing long, fast, and sometimes hollow lefts and rights, though the right-hand wave tends to flatten and change direction quickly, making long rides less common. Access is by boat, keeping crowds moderate compared to other nearby breaks. The sharp reef below demands respect, especially at lower tides. While it is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers comfortable with powerful, reef-bottom waves, Middle Reef also serves as a backup spot in the same bay as Dirty Hippies and offers a good opportunity for less experienced surfers to practice steep takeoffs, though shortboards may struggle due to the inconsistent face.
