The beach's curved geometry means NE winds don't kill it entirely, and the southern corner stays protected when SW winds would scour out neighbouring breaks. Waves get hollow and wedgy, with boils and shallow sections keeping surfers honest - mid tide typically produces the cleanest shape. Standing well offshore are Les Etocs, a cluster of big-wave reefs capable of delivering 3-6m faces on the right swell pulse, strictly for experienced surfers who know the spot. Pors Carn carries real value as the quieter sibling to one of Brittany's most celebrated breaks, yet holds its own on solid swells. Entry is straightforward from the free car park shared with La Torche, with the beachbreak accessed directly from the sand; the reef requires reading conditions carefully before committing. On average days the lineup stays well below the circus next door, but when a pumping swell rolls in and the reef switches on, the local crew materialises fast. The southern corner offers an escape valve when the main peak gets crowded.
