Porz Théolen is a mixed reef-and-sand a-frame break tucked into the north coast of Cap Sizun, one of several little-known setups along a stretch of coastline that rewards exploration. The wave peaks over an uneven reef-and-sand bottom and throws up both left and right options, with medium-pace walls in the 2-8ft range. The bottom combines reef sections with sand, producing variable shapes that shift with swell angle and sand movement - nothing mechanical about it. It works across all tides, which gives it a wider window than many Breton reef spots, though the optimal combination of swell and wind will tighten that window considerably. SW through NW swell directions are the target, with southerly winds providing the offshore angle. The wreck of a sunken boat sits nearby and is worth checking as a navigational reference point when reading the lineup for the first time. Cap Sizun's protected status has kept the water quality in good shape. The broader area conceals a cluster of reef and beach setups within a few kilometres - Baie des Trépassés to the west and Saint Tugen to the southeast both offer different conditions on the same swell. Crowds are rarely an issue here; this is a spot that draws a small local contingent and the occasional travelling surfer who has done their homework.
