Saint Tugen is the standout beachbreak on the southern Finistère coast, a sand-bottom peak that transforms overhead swells into steep, hollow walls with genuine barrel potential at low tide. The bay's orientation gives it a direct window onto SW swells - the dominant Atlantic groundswell direction for Brittany - but it also accepts swell from S through to NW, making it one of the more versatile setups in the Baie d'Audierne. The wave is fast and bowly with a slopey shoulder that allows for some length before the section pinches. At low to mid tide the sandbars organize into defined peaks throwing both lefts and rights; as the tide fills up the shape softens and a heavy shorebreak takes over, with a central rock in the bay adding a navigational challenge for those late to exit. Any northerly or northeasterly wind grooms the face cleanly, and the spot handles solid size comfortably - significantly more so than most neighboring breaks. Access follows signs toward La Pointe du Raz, turning off near Primelin for La Chapelle St Tugen; a free car park sits close to the beach. Compared to other Baie d'Audierne options the crowd is moderate - it draws intermediate surfers on good swells but rarely reaches the pressure levels of more prominent regional spots.
