Surf spot guide · Coral Coast, Fiji
Sigatoka is a scenic, uncrowded beach break running through the Coral Coast sand dunes, where northerly winds set up A-frame peaks along the sand.
Sigatoka sits on Fiji's Coral Coast, where about 5 km (3 mi) of beach break runs through the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. The scenery is gorgeous, and the sandy bottom has no coral heads hiding underneath. When the wind blows from the north, A-frame peaks pop up along the whole length of the beach. The neighbouring Sigatoka Rivermouth is a separate break, with long, quick lefts and shorter rights peeling back into the river current. Swell from the south round to the west lights it up, in sizes from just under a metre to around three metres. Every stage of the tide works, and the waves are good quality when it all comes together. The prime season runs from April through October. Treat the ocean with respect here, as the rips and currents are strong, the water is murky and sharks are around. Strong southeast winds also count against it. On the bright side, the locals are friendly and the lineup tends to stay uncrowded.
Northerly winds turn five kilometres of dune-backed sand into A-frame peaks.
