Surf spot guide · Coral Coast, Fiji
A short, hollow reef right in front of the Beachouse resort on Fiji's Coral Coast, at its best around high tide and suited to advanced surfers.
Beachouse is a reef break on Fiji's Coral Coast, sitting just out front of the Beachouse budget resort. The reef throws short, fast right-handers that turn hollow and punchy. Rides are short and to the point: drop in, pull into the barrel, then exit. The reef only works around high tide, and the waves get faster and more sucking as the water drains away. Look for swell from anywhere between south-east and south-west, with the wind coming from the north. Waves of roughly 0.6 to 1.8 metres suit it best. Usually it runs smaller than the neighbouring breaks, until a 6 to 8 foot swell makes it implode. Keep this one for advanced surfers. Because tide, wind and swell all have to line up within a narrow window, this is a fickle wave that does not break often. The south-east trades spoil conditions along this part of the coast. Across the region, March, April and October tend to be the pick of the year. Getting out is simple, with no boat needed, just a paddle of 200 to 250 metres from the beach. A surf school uses the reforming waves on the inside.
