Hiriketiya is a picturesque bay on Sri Lanka’s south coast, popular for its consistent and gentle waves. The main wave is a sheltered sand beach break in the middle of the horseshoe, ideal for beginners and intermediates. The left-hander in the eastern corner of the bay breaks over shallow reef and is for experienced surfers only. The water is warm year-round, and the lush palm-fringed shoreline creates a tropical vibe. Peak surf season runs from November to April when offshore winds prevail. Crowds can increase during high season but the atmosphere remains friendly. Surf schools and board rentals are readily available on the beach.
