Viana do Castelo.

Cabedelo beach sits at the mouth of the Lima River, reached by a short ferry crossing from Viana do Castelo town. The defining feature is the jetty that juts into the lineup - on a solid NW swell it bends and shelters incoming energy, producing hollow, fast rights that can run for 50-100m before shutting down. The bottom is sand throughout, though proximity to the river mouth keeps conditions unpredictable: the sandbars shift with river flow and the beach needs time to rebuild after storms. Low to mid tide on the incoming push is when the rights find their shape; at high water the wave loses definition and backs off. Smaller, cleaner swells are better explored at the southern end of the beach where peaks form away from the jetty influence. This is not a consistent spot - it works when the swell window aligns with the structure - but when it does come together it earns its reputation. The lineup draws a loyal local crew who know it well and do not warm to unfamiliar faces in the water. Water quality can deteriorate after significant rainfall given the estuary location. The ferry crossing itself is the only access to the beach from town.
