Ponta Delgada.

Ponta Delgada sits on Madeira north coast, a boulder-based point that once delivered long freight-train lefts before a government-built seawall largely destroyed the break. The wave peels over a bouldery bottom, generating fast, punchy sections with boils through the lineup. What remains of the outside section can still fire on rare, powerful W to NW swells, but the connecting rides are gone. The seawall was built to protect a saltwater swimming pool from winter storm damage. Entry is from the village seafront; the boulder bottom and impact zone require careful timing, especially at low tide when rocks are most exposed. Ideal conditions need a solid W swell with SW offshore winds. Consistency is extremely low and months can pass without the spot breaking properly. Only surfers comfortable on heavy boulder setups should consider paddling out. The lineup is rarely crowded given how seldom it works, but boils and submerged boulders present constant hazard even on smaller days.
