Paul do Mar is a powerful boulder-bottom right-hander lining up along the seafront of a small fishing village on Madeira's southwest coast. The break behaves more like a beachbreak than a point, throwing rights at multiple take-off spots along the bay depending on swell direction, though the most consistent section sits at the southern end of the seaside road. When a solid W or NW groundswell arrives, the wave jacks fast over super-shallow boulders, throwing heavy, steep barrels demanding expert commitment. Low tide exposes the reef dangerously and is best avoided; mid to high tide rounds off the worst shallows while still delivering raw power. The wave is thick and wedgy on take-off, with barrel sections linking across the bay for rides of 50-100m on the best swells. Paddle-out requires careful navigation of shallow spots. The village is accessible via tunnel from Jardim do Mar, with free roadside parking. No formal facilities exist at the break.
