Faja da Ovelha is one of Madeira's most remote breaks - a right-hander peeling over a shallow boulder reef on the island's southwest coast that, according to Stormrider records, has been observed but never ridden. Hidden from any road or town, it sits on a rugged stretch of coastline that requires a boat to reach, with hire options available from Paul do Mar or Calheta a few kilometres to the south. The wave is hollow and fast, driven by W to NW swells wrapping into the bay. Boils push up through the water column over the shallow boulder sections, and the takeoff is critical - the wave shape data points to a bowly, wrapping wall that gives little margin at the entry. Wave faces in the 2.4 to 6m range are where this break starts showing its form, with the optimal window sitting around a solid NW groundswell. All tides nominally produce surf here, though the shallow boulder bottom and absence of a defined channel make every entry and exit a serious commitment. Rip currents, sea urchins and submerged rocks are confirmed hazards.
