Praia da Rocha delivers hollow, fast-running peaks over a mixed reef and sand bottom at the eastern end of a wide golden beach flanked by striking rock formations in the centre of Portimão's main tourist strip. The standout feature is the left that peels off the jetty tip: a genuinely tubular section when a solid SW swell arrives, running 50-100m before closing out toward the inside shallows. An a-frame peak also forms further along the beach, offering shorter right-handers across the uneven reef. The wave needs size to perform - anything under roughly 1m rarely produces quality, but once a real groundswell fills in the tubes can rival more celebrated Algarve spots. Because conditions only align a handful of times per season, the break draws numbers when it fires: the lineup gets crowded quickly and the wave's inconsistency means surfers sit and wait, compressing the pack. No notable localism, but the tourist-resort setting means a constant rotation of unfamiliar surfers sharing the peak. Entry is straightforward from the beach but the uneven reef demands awareness at lower water. Pay parking is available directly behind the beach.
