Monte Clérigo.

Monte Clérigo is an open, exposed sandy beachbreak on Portugal's southwest-facing Vicentine Coast, picking up swell from SW through N with NW the sweet spot. The seabed is flat sand scattered with submerged rocks, and the wave behaves accordingly - mostly mid-length, slopey peaks that tend toward straighthanders once the surf gets overhead. The section directly in front of the large rock nearest the small car park is consistently the best bet: rip currents channel either side of it, cleaning up the peak and providing a natural paddle channel. At low tide the beach turns lumpy and the exposed sand produces fat, mushy walls or punishing close-outs, especially further along the strand. Rising tide is the window, when the same swell produces more shape and the inside rocks become less of a concern. High tide can salvage smaller days, holding the wave face up enough for cleaner rides. The spot is straightforward for intermediates and mellow enough for confident beginners on smaller swells, though scattered submerged rocks demand a cautious entry. It rarely draws a crowd despite being relatively accessible, making it a reliable option when better-known Arrifana to the south gets packed. Reefs to the south occasionally line up but tend to be wind-affected; extra parking runs along the road north toward Amoreira.
