Blowhole.

A submerged dead coral reef sitting in the Seunebuk area of Simeulue's south coast. The wave lurches out of deep water and detonates onto a shallow shelf, producing steep, bowly peaks that run primarily left with an occasional right. On moderate swells the face can double in size as it hits the reef, turning what looks manageable from the channel into a genuine drop. The takeoff is critical, demanding a committed bottom turn before racing for the deep water channel on the shoulder. Blowhole sits in a stretch of coastline reshaped by the 2004 tsunami, which replaced former sandy breaks with raised reef shelves. The landscape is raw, with short reefy peaks extending to the north. No facilities exist anywhere nearby. Getting in and out requires threading a keyhole in the reef, a process that demands timing and confidence. Mistiming the entry on a rising tide adds real consequence. The wave works across all tides but shifts character dramatically with tidal movement, requiring constant observation to read the lineup correctly. Incoming tide tends to be the sweet spot. Crowds are thin given the remote location and the wave's unpredictable nature, so sessions are typically uncrowded or shared with a handful of committed surfers staying in the area.
