Cap Saint-Louis wraps a rocky headland east of Marseille, producing long right-handers that run 100-200m over a shallow, uneven reef. The wave draws swell from a wide SE-to-SW window and gains extra punch from the way energy wraps around the point, generating steep, fast walls that can hold well into the 2m-plus range. Boils on the inside section keep surfers honest, and the shallow bottom means hollow sections are a regular feature rather than a bonus. On the far side of the headland a short, sucky left breaks when the NW Mistral is up - exposed and inconsistent, it's a secondary feature at best. The headland's geography is its key asset: it effectively blocks the Mistral, the region's dominant wind, turning blown-out conditions elsewhere into clean offshore or cross-offshore lines at the Cap. Productive October through April, the spot goes flat in summer when the Mediterranean trades offer little. The harbour of Les Lecques sits close by, and road access is tight - roadside parking is the only option and fills fast. Entry is over reef, and urchins are dense across the lineup. Crowds are a defining characteristic of this break: competitive, consistent, and territorial. Localism is well established, and visiting surfers should read the lineup before paddling out. Grande Plage des Lecques, just up the coast, handles longboards and less experienced surfers more comfortably when the Cap is pumping.
