Owerkanda is a quiet reef break near Rathgama with mainly left-hand waves. The swell shapes a fast, fun wave that intermediates can enjoy, while beginners can practice when the conditions are gentle. The reef is deeper than many nearby spots, making paddling in easier, and the lineup stays peaceful since it’s less visited than Hikkaduwa or Galle. A few smaller peaks nearby give options for different abilities, but overall it’s a low-crowd, relaxed place to surf.
A deeper reef that lets intermediates find pace without the Hikkaduwa squeeze.
