A sheltered bay at Unawatuna, mostly calm; occasional small rights for learners.
Unawatuna is a wide, sheltered bay with mostly calm water thanks to the fringing reefs. A small right used to break off the western point, but the boulder sea wall built at the temple in 2013 has largely stopped it from forming. On the biggest swells, gentle inside rights appear, making it okay for longboarders and surf schools. For more exposed surf, nearby Dalawella offers rockier corners and more consistent waves. The area is also great for snorkeling and seeing turtles, especially near Wijaya Beach.
