Vila Nova.

Vila Nova - locally called Baixa da Vila Nova - is a banana-shaped offshore bombora reef on Terceira's north coast, accessible only by boat. The reef concentrates W through N swells into heavy right-handers, with the occasional left on the far end. Waves wedge and bowl abruptly on the shallow reef, producing thick fast barrels that wrap and accelerate into the channel. The break handles exceptional size and is consistently bigger than it looks from the boat. Take-offs are critical: vertical drops, thick lips, and the wave moves fast from the moment the reef grabs the swell. Mid to high tide is the only viable window - low tide is extremely dangerous at any size. The spot needs a medium to large NW groundswell and light S winds to fire, limiting good days to a handful per year. Crowd is almost non-existent, a product of boat logistics and the expert demands of the wave. Talisca, a second heavy righthander, sits 200m from the port but carries treacherous currents.
