Praia da Vitoria sits inside the harbour of Terceira's northeast coast, hosting several distinct reef setups over uneven volcanic reef. The main waves are Dereitas on the right and Esquerda do Chines (Chinese's Left), a clean hotdog left that fires best at high tide on smaller N swells. Vietnam is the primary left, breaking wider than Chines with rippable walls and occasional cover-up sections giving rides of 100-200m. On the rarest of days, Baixa peels further outside Vietnam, materialising only a handful of times each year. Best conditions arrive with mid-tide NW, N or NE swells and a westerly wind cleaning the faces. Takeoffs are vertical and the wave is fast and steep - more demanding than the beginner label suggests. The reef is shallow but not dangerously so, making it accessible for developing surfers with some reef experience. Entry is a direct beach walk from the free carpark in front of the break. The shifting take-off zone spreads the crowd across multiple peaks, though this remains the busiest session on Terceira.
