Porto Martins - Ponta Negra is a long lefthand pointbreak over an uneven, supershallow reef on the south coast of Terceira. On solid NW swells the wave bends hard and fast, throwing tube sections before accelerating into a shallow closeout near Pescador. Hollow, bowly and wrapping - this is not a wave that gives much away. It handles all tides but smaller swells at higher tides push the line dangerously close to the reef, performing best when there is enough swell to generate consistent walls through the mid sections. Winds from the west through northeast keep the face clean. The break sits at the edge of Porto Martins town with roadside parking and direct waterfront access. A well-established local crew dominates the peak on quality days. Intermediates find their place on smaller swells, but above double overhead it demands clear experience on shallow reef. Pescador and Sao Fernando sit within walking distance for those looking to spread out.
