Terreiro is a right-hand boulder break on the south coast of Terceira, in front of Sao Mateus da Calheta. The wave picks up S through W groundswell and focuses it into steep, well-welling faces with plenty of vertical wall to work. Boulders push through the face at certain tide stages, creating abrupt sections and making wave selection critical. The optimal window is a W swell of 0.9 to 3m paired with a north-westerly wind, which grooms the face and allows rides of 50-100m before the wave sections off. S swells work but the wrap is less clean. As the sole consistent south-coast break on Terceira, the spot draws the local crew whenever conditions align, and the lineup reflects its scarcity. Residential pollution from the village affects water quality, and the entry path has construction debris requiring care. Free roadside parking is available near the break but no other facilities exist on site.
