Salga Surf Spot Guide — Terceira, Portugal

Salga is a right-hand pointbreak on Terceira south coast, sitting above an uneven reef near Porto Judeu. The break needs a genuine SW or W swell to line up properly; pure south swells do little here. When conditions align, the wave shifts character with the tide, starting as slopey shoulders and tightening into peeling walls at low to falling tide. Rides of 100 to 200 metres are possible on a good day. The shape mixes crumbly and steep sections that well up rather than pitch hard, with flatspots interrupting rhythm. Entry and exit are the main commitment: swirling currents and shore dump around the pool become serious at mid to high tide, and rocks are scattered through the line-up. The break is rarely crowded and has very low consistency, so most sessions involve long waits. Free car parking, camping, showers and restrooms are available nearby.
