Foz do Lizandro.

Foz do Lizandro sits at the mouth of the Lizandro river, a few kilometres south of Ericeira's reef circuit. The wave is entirely sand-driven, which means its character shifts with every swell cycle - most of the time it offers ordinary, shapeless peaks that draw little attention, but when a SW swell loads the bars correctly, it transforms into something else entirely: fast, hollow lefts that can run 200-500m before closing out. That length and speed set it apart from the more mechanical reef breaks nearby. The wave performs best at low to mid tide on a moderate SW swell with light easterly winds keeping the face clean. The river-mouth geometry means the sandbar configuration is never permanent, so checking conditions on arrival is worth the stop. On a typical day it sits well below capacity, making it a useful escape valve when the nearby reefs are packed. In peak season it does see intermediate surfers looking for exactly that, but it rarely reaches the pressure levels of Ribeira d'Ilhas or São Julião. The estuary can carry river pollution after heavy rain inland - a real deterrent worth respecting. There is a car park directly above the beach with free roadside parking nearby, making access straightforward.
