School Yards sits in front of a school building on the North Telo Islands reef system, breaking over dead coral into deep water offshore. The wave has a variable personality, slopey and workable at smaller sizes, it tightens into hollow, fast-pitching barrels as the swell fills in. A scalloped reef profile creates multiple takeoff sections that shift position depending on swell angle and size, which has the useful side-effect of spreading the lineup across different peaks. An outer bowl section handles the larger swells but tends to disconnect from the fun inside runners that make the spot so approachable day-to-day. Boils are present and the wave wells up before pitching, demanding commitment on the drop. The inside gets shallow fast. Access is exclusively by boat; Telo Island Lodge places it around 15 minutes by speedboat from the main resort area. The primary season runs April through October. Guides operating in the northern zone are the best resource for reading daily conditions across the cluster of breaks here.
