Way Jambu, also known as Pear River or the "Sumatran Pipeline," is a powerful reef break located just south of Tanjung Setia in the village of Pekon Way Jambu. Renowned for producing some of the heaviest and most challenging waves in the region, it offers long, wide-open barrels breaking over a sharp, shallow coral reef. The wave stands up far out on the outer reef, with the main surf action occurring on the last reef closest to the parking area. It is highly sectioned and sensitive to swell direction and tide, favoring swells with more south in them that run along the reef rather than hitting it head-on. The spot is best surfed on higher tides to ensure enough water covers the reef, as the dry end section can be hazardous. Surfers should be prepared for precise positioning, late drops, and full commitment due to the powerful lips and the risk of breaking boards on the sharp reef. Access involves a tricky turnoff and parking on grass near the break, with a local landowner managing parking.
