L'Aubraie is a beach break set over fingers of uneven reef, producing several peaks along the stretch but consistently delivering its best performance on the left-handers. The reef shelves influence the wave shape significantly - lefts pitch up shorter and hollower than the rights, which tend to be softer and less defined. As the tide fills, the character shifts: lower stages expose the reef influence and tighten the walls, while higher water softens the ride and lets the wave travel further down the line before the beach section turns into shoredump with backwash making it unrideable. The slopey, well-covered nature of the swell entry means the wave wells up steadily rather than detonating on impact, giving intermediate surfers time to position, though boils and shallow sections catch the unprepared. SW to NW swells in the 0.3-2.4m range are the sweet spot, with a NE wind cleaning up the faces. The incoming tide is flagged as optimal for the reef sections specifically. Out of summer the campsite that dominates the access point closes, thinning the crowd considerably - during peak season the "Often" busy lineups reflect the spot's ease of access via roadside and free parking directly above the beach. The sharp rock zones outside the sandier sections demand awareness on any approach or wipeout. A functional, consistent option that rewards those who read the tide cycle correctly.

the wave softens and the beach section deteriorates as high tide fully fills in. Avoid the high-tide beach section entirely when backwash is running - paddle further out to the reef peaks instead. Out of summer the campsite closes and crowds thin significantly, making shoulder-season the best time to score it without competition. Sharp rocks sit outside the sand sections - check the reef layout before paddling out and avoid casual wipeouts on the inside.
