The island's breaks peak over uneven reef, producing slopey, well-covered waves with a medium pace and steep faces — fun rather than critical, suitable for developing surfers on smaller swells but capable of delivering proper rides when the Atlantic fires. The south-facing Plage des Vieilles and the north-facing la Pulante offer contrasting exposures, so swell direction largely dictates which side to check. Best angles are from the SW through to NW, with a straight W swell the optimal pick. Incoming tide is the trigger — mid-tide on the push tends to organise the banks best. The island needs solid groundswell to come alive; summer is frequently flat, and the spot registers low consistency overall. Getting here requires a ferry from Fromentine or Noirmoutier, which acts as a natural crowd filter — the lineup is rarely busy, and the island atmosphere is relaxed with no meaningful localism.
