Les Cavaliers sits at the southern edge of the Adour river mouth in Anglet, where the jetty structure focuses NW swells onto shifting sandbars to produce well-defined A-frames with a dominant right. The wave is bowly and steep at takeoff, with sections running fast and true over a well-covered sand bottom - it rarely closes out completely but rewards surfers who read the bank. At low to mid tide the outer bars peel properly and the rights can push 50-100m before the inside section starts dragging. As the tide fills in, the energy transfers to a heavier shorebreak. NW is the optimal swell window, and the jetty geometry gives the spot some shelter from cross-shore winds, making easterlies the standout condition. This is one of the most consistent stretches of the Landes-Basque coast and has hosted major international contests as a result. The paddling channel along the jetty wall makes entry straightforward, which is a double-edged sword: it draws large surf school groups and an aggressive crowd chasing the better peaks. Summer and autumn can put 100-plus surfers in the water. On small days the vibe gets territorial over the A-frames. Heading south toward 'Les Dunes' on less active sessions can take the pressure off. Estuary water quality from the Adour is a permanent consideration - rips remain present despite the jetty's shelter.
