Cupsogue.

Cupsogue is a shifting sand-bottom beachbreak at the western edge of the Hamptons, sitting between Shinnecock and Moriches inlets where the long Cupsogue Beach Park inlet jetty shapes the banks. Peaks line up either side of the groyne and along the beach toward the West Hampton jetties, producing a rotating cast of lefts and rights as the sandbars rebuild after each storm. The jetty itself blocks west winds, making this one of the more surfable corners of Long Island when the rest of the coast is blown out. It needs a solid swell from the E through SW window to wrap around the inlet and break close to the jetty, otherwise smaller pulses spread out as softer peaks further up the beach. Access is via town-sticker parking lots and 4WD beach tracks, and walking the beach usually rewards with empty waves. Crowds cluster at the obvious peaks, so locals expect newcomers to spread out and mind the rip currents that run through the inlet.
