Porth.

Porth is a confused, generally gutless beachbreak tucked into a narrow north-facing cove on the north edge of Newquay, breaking over a clean sand bottom with shifty a-frame peaks that back off quickly and rarely hold any real shape. The deep water offshore robs the wave of punch, so it fires best when a small 1 to 2m SW through NW swell funnels in and a light SE wind grooms the inside. Sat between Lusty Glaze to the south and Whipsiderry to the north, the spot is usually ignored by experienced locals who drift toward Fistral and Cribbar when the swell picks up, which leaves Porth as a mellow low to mid tide option for learners and longboarders. Access is easy from the road above the beach via a short walk past the harbour, with paid parking and amenities grouped along the seafront. When Newquay goes huge and closes out, Porth occasionally offers cleaner, smaller alternatives inside the cove.
