Lusty Glaze.

Lusty Glaze sits in a compact, privately owned cove tucked between low cliffs just north of Newquay town centre. The sandy bottom throws up both lefts and rights across shifting banks, with rides typically in the 50-100m range before the wave flattens or runs into the cove walls. The break is relatively sheltered compared to Fistral or Towan, which means it stays organised on smaller SW swells when exposed beaches go messy, but it also means it rarely receives the raw size that powers Newquay's bigger names. Solid SW swell with an easterly offshore is the sweet spot; the wave works best at low to mid tide when the banks are exposed and the inside shorebreak is manageable. The spot gained wider recognition as the venue for an annual night-surf competition, one of very few such events held in the UK. Access is entirely via a car park above the beach and 133 steep steps down to the sand - there is no other reliable route. A walk along the bay toward Newquay harbour is possible at spring low tide but is cut off as the tide rises. The beach runs surf lessons for beginners and improvers in the smaller surf, and the inside section over flat sand can genuinely suit novices in waist-high conditions. When size builds above 1-1.5m, the shorebreak steepens and rocks along the cove edges require awareness.
