Comporta is an exposed Atlantic beach break with left- and right-breaking peaks over shifting sandbanks. Peak position and wave shape change with swell, wind, tide, and sandbank formation. Southwest groundswell with easterly offshore wind is the most favorable setup, and the spot can work year-round through all tide stages. Surf schools use the beach, which can offer manageable waves for beginners while retaining more challenging conditions. The open beach has no bay or headland shelter, so wave and current conditions can change quickly.
