Raglan - Manu Bay.

Manu Bay is the innermost and most accessible of Raglan's three left-hand point breaks, and it's where the town's world-class reputation is earned. The wave begins at the Ledge - a shallow boulder section that throws a proper hollow barrel - before unwinding into a long, walling ride that can stack up to 300m or more past the boat ramp. On solid SW-NW groundswell, the whole ride links into something genuinely special: fast, committed surfing with room to work every section. This is one of the Southern Hemisphere's most recognized left-handers. The consistent quality and easy road access make it a legitimate bucket-list wave, but those same attributes mean it is almost always crowded. Incoming tide with a SE wind is the sweet spot - the swell wraps cleanest and the barrel at the Ledge holds its shape. Entry is off the rocks past the main take-off zone, which requires timing, especially when it's solid. Strong rip currents run north toward the harbour on big days. The boulder bottom is shallow through the barrel section, and the rips deserve real respect. The lineup has a reputation. Locals are known to drop in and snake, so positioning and assertiveness matter more here than at most spots. Arrive early, read the pecking order, and earn your waves.
