Surf spot guide · La Réunion, France
La Pointe des Galets offers powerful reef breaks with consistent waves and challenging conditions for experienced surfers.
La Pointe des Galets sits on the commercial harbour frontage of Le Port on Réunion’s west coast. The immediate shoreline here is port infrastructure (breakwaters and industrial waterfront) rather than a typical surf-break.The spot produces fast, punchy waves that can become hollow on bigger swells, especially during the southern hemisphere winter. Strong currents and sharp reef make it a challenging and potentially hazardous location. The lineup is often less crowded than other Réunion spots, but localism can sometimes be present. Shark risk is notable here, so extra caution is advised. Access to the break is straightforward, but always check conditions before paddling out.
