Cap La Houssaye is a renowned reef break on La Réunion’s west coast in Saint-Paul sector, attracting experienced surfers with its consistent, powerful waves. The spot works best with south to southwest swells and is highly responsive to incoming tides. The wave is described as powerful and fast with steep, sometimes hollow/pitchy takeoffs over hard bottom, and can be very tide- and wind-sensitive due to the shallow reef/rock structure and open exposure. Cap La Houssaye is challenging and rewarding. The wider Réunion context includes strong shark risk and restrictive surfing regulations outside protected/monitored areas. The area is less crowded than other Réunion spots, offering a more relaxed lineup. Local knowledge is invaluable for navigating the tricky entry and changing conditions.
