Boucan Canot is one of La Réunion’s most popular beach-reef breaks near Saint-Gilles/Saint-Paul, offering consistent and punchy waves year-round. The spot is a peaky, mixed sand and volcanic rock/reef surf zone that can produce both lefts and rights depending on where the peak forms. It is most responsive to W–SW swell and tends to be cleanest with offshore trade-wind directions (E–SE). The wave can be sectiony and punchy in average surf, becoming steeper and more hollow as swell size/period increases, with tide influencing how much the rock/reef structure is engaged (lower tides increasing definition but also consequences.
