La Pointe au Sel is a renowned reef break located near Saint-Leu on the southwest coast of La Réunion. The spot is famous for its fast, punchy, and sometimes hollow waves breaking over sharp volcanic reef, offering thrilling rides for advanced surfers. Swells from the south and southwest provide the most consistent conditions, especially during the austral winter. The reef is shallow at low tide and exposed to strong currents, making it dangerous for inexperienced surfers. Shark presence is a known risk, so local safety protocols should be followed. The spot has a relaxed vibe but can get busy with locals when the swell is good.
