The wave breaks as an a-frame peak, throwing up steep, fast walls that can get genuinely hollow on the pushing tide. Despite the sheltered position, the shape stays lively — slopey sections link with punchier spots where the reef influences the sand, producing rides in the 50-100m range. It needs SW to W swell to funnel in, but the real upside is its tolerance for NW winds that shut down more exposed breaks along this stretch of coastline. When Guidel and the other open-beach options are blown out or maxed, Toulhars becomes the go-to for the surrounding 15km radius. That word has spread — crowds arrive in numbers when conditions align, despite the wave's low overall consistency. Entry is straightforward from the beach at Larmor-Plage with free car parking close by. One significant issue to be aware of: reports of untreated sewage being released onto the beach have been flagged with environmental authorities — water quality should be checked before paddling out, particularly after heavy rainfall.
