Les Donnants is the standout surf spot on Belle-Ile-en-Mer, a small island off the southern coast of Brittany. The break offers a genuine A-frame peak over an uneven reef bottom, producing a fast, hollow left that runs back toward the cliff channel and a defined right that peels away from it. Waves work across all tidal stages, with the incoming tide noted as optimal for shape. It fires best on solid SW to NW swells, with W the sweet spot — the island's exposure means it picks up open Atlantic groundswell well, and it ranks as the most consistent break on the island. Wave faces typically range from around 0.6m up to 2.4m on bigger pulses, with rides running 50-100m on good days. The left channel beside the cliff provides a natural paddle-out reference but also concentrates surfers on that flank. Belle-Ile's limited surf real estate means all the island's wave hunters converge here when it's on — summer months in particular see the lineup fill fast, driven by the island's popularity as a holiday destination. Beyond Donnants, the south end of the island around Herlin offers additional options, and the sheltered east side at Port An-Dro can produce rideable surf when the Atlantic is too big. Lifeguards and a surf school operate through the summer season.

Car ferry access to Belle-Ile-en-Mer runs year-round. Beach access is straightforward with parking available near the break. Lifeguards and a surf school are present in summer. Be aware of rocks along the cliff-side channel.
