Boutrouilles - also known locally as Kerlouan - is a beach break shaped by scattered granite rocks and reef patches that pin sand in place and generate defined peaks across a broad stretch of the Finistère coastline. The waves are predominantly A-frame peaks, well-covered and slopey in character, with enough push from the reef beneath to produce occasional wedging sections, particularly where the granite boulders create deflection off the sides. Rides are typically short, in the 0-50m range, and the wave speed sits in the medium range - not a race down the line, but not a drawn-out mush either. It works best from mid tide upward, with incoming tide generally the sweet spot before the swell loses its form at full high. NW swells are the primary driver, and a southeasterly wind cleans the face up. Size range sits in the 0.3-1.8m window for most sessions, though it can stretch to around 1.8m on a solid NW push. Bodyboarders have long favoured the spot for the wedgy closeout sections generated by the granite rock clusters. The crowd picture is moderate - a familiar local cast most of the year, with numbers rising sharply in summer when, ironically, the waves tend to be weakest. Parking is free and access is straightforward from the village of Kerlouan.
