The beach's natural geography does some of the work: the far corners offer measurable shelter from both wind and swell on bigger or messier days, making them worth checking when the main peak is blown out or too fat. Offshore rocks and oyster farm infrastructure play a significant role in shaping the break — they filter and block swell at low tide, which means the spot needs at least mid tide to function properly, with spring highs adding extra push through the obstacles. This tidal sensitivity is the defining logistical factor here. Parking is free and straightforward, with roadside and car park options, so early sessions are easy to organise. The broader Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau coastline hides several shallower reef alternatives for those willing to explore when swell is marginal or the main beach is crowded. St Pabu draws a regular crowd — bodyboarders in particular are drawn to the wedging shorebreak. Expect company on any decent swell.
