Costazul is Rio das Ostras' best known beach, a roughly 2.3 kilometre stretch of sand anchoring the city's waterfront strip. Surfers and bodyboarders concentrate at the southern end, where the sand gives way to a rock formation marking the boundary with Praia do Remanso: that stretch produces the beach's best waves and hosts the region's surf and bodyboard contests. A submarine outfall pier further along the beach also pushes up noticeably stronger waves than the open sand nearby. The municipality runs a bodyboard school on the beach, and lifeguards patrol several fixed posts along the sand. Reach it from the Amaral Peixoto highway, RJ106: cross the Rio das Ostras bridge from the Central Church and follow Governador Roberto Silveira Avenue to the water. Kiosks, bars and a two kilometre boardwalk line the sand, and the beach draws heavy foot traffic year round, so the lineup at the rock end fills fast on weekends and holidays.

Head to the beach's southern end near the rock formation bordering Praia do Remanso for the best waves, where regional surf and bodyboard contests are held.
Use the submarine outfall pier further along the beach as a landmark: waves noticeably strengthen around it.
Enter from Governador Roberto Silveira Avenue after crossing the Rio das Ostras bridge on RJ-106 for the shortest walk to the surf zone.
Expect the boardwalk and kiosks to be packed on weekends and school holidays, and the lineup at the rock end to fill up with it.
