Massambaba is the long exposed restinga that runs between Praia Seca and Arraial do Cabo, and the Figueira stretch holds its best-documented peaks. Rights and lefts break over shifting sand bars, starting to work around 1m of E or S swell and holding up to 3m. A NE wind grooms it and the Brazilian forecast guides rate a rising tide, though the banks produce rideable waves through the cycle. The reward on the right day is hollow, barreling beachbreak with almost nobody out, a rarity this close to the Regiao dos Lagos surf towns. The trade is real: strong rips, no lifeguard, and long gaps between sandy access points off a soft-sand 4x4 track. The kite crews you may spot near Monte Alto are riding the Lagoa de Araruama on the far side of the sand strip, not the ocean beach.

Every source that describes this stretch agrees it is close to empty. Weekdays are deserted and even weekends draw only a handful of surfers, so plan on reading the banks without a lineup to guide you.

HAZARDS · KNOW BEFORE YOU PADDLE
Turn off the Cabo Frio to Arraial do Cabo road at the police post and follow the restinga road towards Monte Alto and Figueira; sandy entrances on the left lead to the beach. Tracks are soft sand, so a 4x4 helps.
